Nakagawa Kiyohide led an action packed life. Born in Nakagawara, Fukui Village, Settsu Province (present-day Ibaraki City, Osaka Prefecture) in 1542, his childhood name was Toranosuke, although he was commonly known as Sehyoe. Said to have descended from the noble Minamoto clan, the Nakagawa were a small samurai clan in Settsu Province, but Kiyohide’s outstanding valour, led the Nakagawa clan to rise to prominence and to daimyo status with a maximum fief of 120,000 koku.
