The Great Shrine of Ise is the most prestigious and sacred Shinto Shrine in all Japan. Today and over the following few days, literally, millions of people will flock to the shrine to pay their New Years’ respects to the gods. The shrine consists of both the Geku, Outer Shrine and the Naiku, Inner Shrine, and a proper visit requires one to travel to both, although most people these days only visit the more popular Naiku, Inner Shrine.
