There are some five graves and kubi-zuka, head-mounds dedicated to Kondo Isami, leader of the late Edo period special police unit, the Shinsengumi. The pro-shogun Kondo Isami was executed at Itabashi in Edo (Tokyo), on April 25, 1868 under the orders of the Imperial forces towards the end of the Boshin War. He had been wanted in connection with the assassination of the reformist, Sakamoto Ryoma.
