Known as the Tiger of Owari, Oda Nobuhide was born in 1510, the eldest son of Oda Nobusada, one of the three Kiyosu Magistrates, and the lord of Shobata Castle in Owari Province (Western Aichi Prefecture), modern day Aisai City, Inazawa City, Aichi Prefecture. His father, Nobusada, was of the Kiyosu Oda clan, and the shugo that ruled the lower four districts of Owari. He was a warlord, magistrate, Buddhist monk, and head of the powerful Oda clan that ruled much of Owari Province. Nobuhide was unable to completely gain control of Owari, as internal fighting between various members of the Oda clan thwarted his attempts. Nobuhide also faced the Viper of Mino, Saito Dosan to his north, and Imagawa Yoshimoto, master of Mikawa, (modern–day eastern Aichi Prefecture) Suruga and Totomi (Shizuoka Prefecture) to his east.
