As a serving member of the Sekigahara Preservation and Promotions Advisory Committee, I can report there has been talk on developing, preserving and maintaining Mt. Sasao, the site of the Western Forces field commander, Ishida Mitsunari’s headquarters to the north-west of the battlefields. One major point has been the symbolic palisades. For over 60 years, local residents and the town council have built and maintained log fences at the site, however recent debate suggests that such a palisade would historically not have existed, and so some members of the committee have called for the refraining of the continued practice of maintaining the controversial defensive features.
