Shogun Ashikaga Yoshimasa (January 20, 1436 – January 27, 1490)
The eighth Shogun of the Ashikaga Shogunate, Ashikaga Yoshimasa reigned from 1449 to 1473 during the turmoil of the Muromachi period and was in part responsible for the beginning of the Sengoku, or Warring States period. Despite being the cause of wars, he was also responsible for the development of Japan’s fine culture.
