The warlord Oda Nobunaga had a fearful reputation, and there was little that Nobunaga feared or revered,…except for a small shrine in Mino Province.

In September of 1567, the first of the nation’s Three Unifiers, Oda Nobunaga launched an vicious attack on Inabayama Castle in an attempt to wrest it from his rival and nephew Saito Tatsuoki, the grandson of the famed “Viper of Mino”, Saito Dosan. Nobunaga had long wanted the strategically important mountaintop fortress as part of his plan to capture the nation and bring enforces peace under his command.
