The Three Great Spears of Japan

Spears were highly prized, none more so than the Three Great Spears of Japan, the Tombokiri, the Nihongo and the Otegine; considered the three greatest spears ever!

While most believe the main weapon of the samurai was the sword, the bow was primarily the Heian period samurai’s weapon of choice, while spears were considered the fighting man’s weapon during the Sengoku through to the early Edo periods.
