If you’ve ever watched Japanese TV or movies, you may well have seen the period drama, Toyama no Kin San, the legend about a samurai official who goes incognito during the days as a low ranking warrior known simply as Kin San (Mr. Kin), only to solve crimes and help the long-suffering commoners of Edo in their plight against greedy officials, evil money lenders, ruffians and the like, revealing his cherry-blossom-crested tattooed shoulders only in the last moments when fighting the bad guys.
