Continued from Part 1….

Another remaining defensive structure still standing is the Fushimi Tamon Yagura. This Fushimi Yagura is the only remaining watchtower in the Nishi-no-maru, and was so named as it was originally part of Fushimi Castle in the south of Kyoto, and destroyed in 1600 as part of the skirmishes leading to the Battle of Sekigahara. Behind this extant Fushimi Yagura, is the Emperor’s living quarters in the old Fukiage section.
