Top 10 Edo Period Daimyo Kokudaka Rankings
Who Were the Richest Daimyo, & How Rich Were They? Explaining the Kokudaka System
Kokudaka is an early modern Japanese unit of land productivity expressed in koku. For about 300 years from the Taiko Land Survey to the Land Tax Reform, it was used as a standard for the income of daimyo and hatamoto, as well as the burden of various duties such as chigyo and military service, and the size of land was expressed in kokudaka rather than area. In addition, annual taxes from farmers were also collected based on kokudaka.
