On the night of July 25, 1600, Tokugawa Ieyasu visited Fushimi Castle on the southern outskirts of Kyoto, and spent the night talking with his long-time friend and vassal, Torii Mototada. Both men knew this was to be the last time the two close friends would ever see each other. Torii was to be martyred in an effort to destroy Ishida Mitsunari and the Western forces in the lead up to the Battle of Sekigahara.
