Warring States period Daimyo, warrior Yamauchi Katsutoyo died on this day, November 1, 1605. He was a much finer warrior that he has been credited with.

Born in Kuroda Castle, Owari Province (Aichi Prefecture) in either 1545 or 1546 he was the third son of Yamauchi Moritoyo, a senior retainer to the Iwakura-Oda clan controlling the upper four counties of Owari, and rivals to the southern based Oda clan, Oda Nobunaga’s family.
